We are sad to hear that June died at home on 3rd July 2020, at the age of 94. She was actively involved in the establishment of AVB in 1981, becoming its chairman in 1983, a post which she held for 26 years. She continued on the committee, eventually retiring in 2012.
AVB was only part of the voluntary work that June undertook. She was a member of the team which had founded the Ascot Day Centre in the 1970s, bringing to fruition the original idea of local GP, Dr. Chandler. June became chairman for 14 years, before being made President for life.
She was also involved with a local carers’ support group and forum.
In 2000 June, who had been a pharmacist during her working life, was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in recognition of her voluntary work.
While her funeral is to be held on 20th July, this will be limited to 20 mourners, so it is anticipated that a memorial service will be held when things eventually return to normal after the Covid-19 pandemic.
