As the name of our charity implies, Ascot Volunteer Bureau relies totally on volunteers to provide the service.
We are always looking for individuals who can set aside some of their valuable time to act as drivers. Please note that you must have a full driving licence and that you will be using your own vehicle to drive clients to their appointments.
Drivers receive a modest recompense from our clients to help offset their costs. This is £5 for a local journey (within the Ascot / Sunninghill / Sunningdale area) or 50p per mile for longer journeys.
As required by law, anybody who works with the elderly must undergo a DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) and obtain the necessary clearance before driving any of our clients.
You can contribute as much or as little time as you wish to this activity. Each individual job is agreed with our drivers so you do not have to dedicate set times on set days.
From time to time we also require individuals who are prepared to man the office to supplement the time that our coordinator John Thomson and other volunteers who fulfil this role put in. Ideally, you should be able to perform this task on a regular basis, e.g. one day per week from 10am until noon. The office is situated in South Ascot Church Hall.
See the Volunteer Guidelines document for further information.
If you are able to give up some of your time to help our worthwhile charity by acting as a driver and/or manning the office please arrange an initial chat with John, our coordinator, by telephoning us on 01344 625520 during normal opening hours (10am to noon, Monday to Friday) or by leaving a message on the answerphone at other times.
